The International Center for Research on the Phenomenon of Solidarity and the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków invite you to participate in the Solidarity Summer School: Globalisation of the Polish experience of “Solidarność” – an international academic program primarily offered to both Polish and foreign students.

The Summer School will take place online from June 30 to July 4, 2025. Over the course of five days, participants will explore the historical context of the emergence of solidarity in Poland and its institutional form: the NSZZ “Solidarność” trade union. They will examine how the idea of solidarity developed in Polish philosophical thought and society, and gain insight into the significance of solidarity for European identity.

Together, participants will also seek answers to questions such as:

• Can the Polish experience of solidarity be transferred to other countries?
• What does solidarity mean today, in light of contemporary transformations and possibilities?
• How can solidarity be realized in a global economy?

Classes will be conducted in the form of lectures and workshops by a team of internationally recognized professors and experts. Topics discussed during the Summer School will include:

• The history of the idea of solidarity in the context of 19th- and 20th-century economic transformations;
• The ethics of solidarity in Poland and its historical development, particularly through the thought of John Paul II and Józef Tischner;
• Solidarity in Europe;
• Solidarity as a response to the challenges of globalization in the economic, social, and cultural spheres;
• The possibility of deepening and creatively developing the idea of solidarity;

• Applying the Polish experience of solidarity to global problems.

Participation in the Summer School is subject to a fee. The cost is 2,000 PLN.
