The International Center for Research on the Phenomenon of Solidarity
The Centre is a research unit at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow, operating in cooperation with the National Commission of the Solidarity Trade Union (NSZZ "Solidarność"). It was established on June 19, 2018 by Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski, Grand Chancellor of UPJPII, and Mr. Piotr Duda, President of the CC of NSZZ "Solidarność". The MCBFS's objectives are primarily: mutual scientific cooperation aimed at a better understanding of the phenomenon of solidarity, as well as the creation of a spiritual-intellectual base for exploring and strengthening the idea of solidarity in its anthropological-moral aspect and initiatives undertaken by the CC of NSZZ "Solidarność" on the basis of Catholic social teaching and Christian ethics. History:
18.06.2018, Granada - "Declaration of Granada".
On behalf of the President of the CC of the Solidarity Trade Union, Bogdan Biś delivered his speech "The Solidarity Experience. The desire for the dignity of the worker and its fulfilment". The speech indicated the basic directions of the Center, which was just being created.
19.06.2018, Zakopane - Act of formation of the The International Center for Research on the Phenomenon of Solidarity
The Grand Chancellor of UPJPII, H.E. Archbishop Prof. Marek Jędraszewski and the President of KK NSZZ "Solidarność" Piotr Duda signed the document "Agreement on scientific cooperation", thereby establishing a new unit at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow - the International Centre for Research on the Phenomenon of Solidarity.
03.06.2019, Gdańsk - BHP hall. Scientific conference "He awoke Solidarity in us".
The BHP Hall of the Gdańsk Shipyard hosted celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of John Paul II's first pilgrimage to his homeland. Part of the programme was the scientific conference "He awoke Solidarity in us - the 40th anniversary of John Paul II's first pilgrimage to the Fatherland", which was organised by the National Commission of NSZZ "Solidarność" and the International Research Centre on the Phenomenon of Solidarity. Representatives of the highest state authorities were present, led by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. A letter sent by President Andrzej Duda was read to the assembly.

04.12.2019 Vatican City - Private audience with Pope Francis
Members of the Presidium of the National Commission of the Solidarity Trade Union, headed by Piotr Duda, and a delegation from the The International Center for Research on the Phenomenon of Solidarity were received in a private audience by the Holy Father Pope Francis. 19-20.05.2021 co-organised Scientific Conference "Man in relation to ... Solidarity"
26.05.2021 The academic conference "The message of the encyclicals: Rerum Novarum, Laborem exercens, Centesimus annus and the possibility of their application in the world of working people".
The conference was opened by His Excellency Prof. Marek Jędraszewski, Archbishop of Krakow and Grand Chancellor of UPJPII.
Jarosław Lange presented his paper, "NSZZ Solidarność".
19-20.11.2021 The international academic conference: "Solidarity as a community and brotherhood of working people".
The conference was held in three languages. The Polish and English transcripts of the conference will be made available after processing on the The International Center for Research on the Phenomenon of Solidarity's Youtube channel.
In keeping with the tradition of the Polish experience of solidarity, the conference brought together representatives of the Church, the scientific sphere, and the working people.
